What women need today is to be portrayed in the media as professional, responsible drivers who practice ‘a code of excellence’ when interacting within proper social boundaries on the job and with their co workers. Media is responsible for ‘getting the word’ out to the public. Media writers can change the way people view the world. Writers hold the ‘power of change’ in their hands.

Which road gets me where I want to go?

I totally agree with you Deb.
There is a facination with Women Truckers & unless it is grasped control of the media will sell the novelty with any vehicle they can.
That's how they make money, sensationalism.
I grew up in & around in Hollywood community & I know that they will make the story with or without you. Regardless of truth.
Being in a movie or show does not guarentee that you don't end up on the cutting room floor either or have your words edited to infer another meaning.
In Hollywood & vincinity its Easy to get numerous offer to projects that make someone with stars in their eyes jump at opportunities. But Beware ....
Smart Women are not as marketable & entertaining as silly women that think they are smart.
Its importent to take control of the coming wave of attention before a Sarah Palin fallout occurs that can damage the image of what hard working Women Drivers have been fighting for like yourself.

Interesting topic ladies. I have been driving truck since 1977 and also felt the need to be recognized for my professionalism and ability. That is all fine and good, but not the real world. Spending this much time in the industry, I have learned that the only person who appreiciated that was my deceased husband. The rest have only a few thoughts in their minds.
We do live an exciting life out here. Freedom and choice is something most don't enjoy in life,to the extent that they see us doing, so the need to read inbetween the lines is sorta thier escape.
As our world declines in morality so will the level of interest. For me that has meant a more solitary life, less visits in the coffee shop. Fewer conversations with other drivers and a continued atempt to live as I see fit.
Just FYI, I am writing a book and it will be a big thing for me to get finished. Glad to hear that I am not alone in regards to the way I feel about my job.

I'd love to hear more about your book when it's complete, Keep us posted. Deb has some stories to tell and she had a dog she shared her travels with also.

I often have people say to me , "I know you get lonely" and I say "But I don't, I'm totally fine" I just like doing my job and spending time alone anyways so it's not like I'm lonely, I'm doing what I like to do.

People have hard time understanding that

Desiree,
Glad to hear from you. My Book,Hmmmm, well it will be interesting. I plan to add several chapters that tell the stories of other Lady Truckers along with my story. So, if your are at a truckstop and hear someone ask the female drivers for some input, it might be me.
I also plan a chapter that is totally male dominated. I want the hard questions asked and answered, if they dare speak the truth. Not tough questions mind you. Easy ones....Like, what do you think of females in trucking, that sort of thing. I know there are alot of guys who enjoy the fact that we are out here, but also those that do not.
I have been keeping a diary for years and will edit those. Some pretty cool stuff and heart breaking too. Of which we can all relate.
I started my driving career as a log truck driver in the Northwest. Tough job but loved it.
Just a tidbit for ya. Book is called "No Ring". Not anything like you would expect it to mean. Not at all.......
Be Safe out there
