"Raising the Standards of the Trucking Industry"

Today was an exciting day for the supporters of "Jasons Law" HR2156. Hope Rivenburg, the widow of Jason Rivenburg, wants to attend the GATS show in August of this year. Their ( Hope and family) goal is to get thousands more people aware and involved in BIll HR2156 titled "Jasons Law" As you remember, Jason Rivenburg was a driver who parked his truck to rest at an abandoned gas station( because of the lack of safe truck parking) He was shot and killed while he rested. The robbers/murders reward for their evil deed was $7.00. Jason left a pregnant wife carrying twins, a 2 year old, and his many loving family and friends.

Since then Hope and family has worked relentllessly and on August 28th D-Congressman Paul Tonko intoduced Jason's Law" to the house. The family started a petition for the Bill HR2156 and have received the support of drivers, bloggers, concerned citizens, OOida, and the ATA. This mans death has brought together people within the trucking industry, working together for this one common cause: "The safety of Truck Drivers"

I've spoken with Hope Rivenburg a few times trying to determine how we can all help. She told me that she wanted to go to GATS in August but were having difficulty raising the funds required: airfare, room, meals, booth, etc...
I asked her if she thought of asking for sponsorship and she hadn't. It just seemed lke a no brainer to me to request help from the ATA and OOIDA. These 2 organizations are VERY supportive of "Jasons Law", expressing their support publicly on many occasions. What better person would they want at The Great American Truck Show to promote support for "Jason's Law" than Jason's widow?

We posted a blog post about it early Sunday morning, requesting sponsorship from ATA and OOIDA. Low and behold we get a post on the blog from GoTruckStop.com...OFFERING HOPE THEIR BOOTH at GATS!

I've spoken with Hope a couple more times today and I can't tell you how excited and thrilled she is to have a booth for Jason's Law. She's still hoping for sponsorship for the trip...but is so grateful for the Booth!!! This means she can bring all her literature, bracelets, t-shirts, etc...and ensure that this Bill gets passed.

For those who have signed Jasons Law yet, here is the petition.

Hope to see you at GATS in August. If you come please stop by the Jason's Law Booth and help us hand out pamphlets, stickers, and just be a part of such a wonerful cause.

This is a step in the right direction to have the ATA & OOIDA both coming out in Support of this bill.
There is so much more work to be done to be certain that "Jason's Law" is not forgotten when the Transportation Committee begins prioritizing.
The list of states the Rivenburg Family has provided us that are in support are a good start but there are so many who have never heard of the safe trucker parking bill named in Jason Rivenburg's name.
The CSPAN Video introduction of the bill is located on the family website & the new You Tube Video Allen Made for the Rivenburg Family is very helpful to send & share with others who don't know about the bill yet.

Let's help the Rivenburgs attend GATS in Dallas & get the best chance possible to educate the Trucking Community on how we can get this bill passed.
