I just put in a 3000 mile week, and boy, is my a$$ sore! My truck needs some TLC too, so I won't be getting back in the saddle till Tuesday and I'm dreading it. I did the last 500 miles sitting on a pillow, and that only helped a bit.
My seat is comfortable, and set up right, but 10+ hours a day in it has left me with a couple of sore spots in the bicycle-seat area. One of my neighbours is a kinesiologist and she helped me out to make sure my seat height etc was correct.
Before I spend a fortune on some sort of space-age padding... anyone have any thoughts/feedback on one sort of seat cushion over another? My DH even suggested I wear silk boxers to cut down on "friction"! He might have a point.
You know it's bad when you start to seriously consider the concept of getting on the highway, setting the cruise control, then standing up beside the shifter to steer. And, NO, I didn't do that - but it was tempting.

Hellion, last week I was at the Iowa 80 Trucker's Jamboree and there was a vendor there from Canada who had invented a massaging truck seat. I sat in it and it was truly wonderful. Sounds all most too "entertaining" to be useful! I'll check the link, thanks Ellen. Still think I may pick up one of those "gel" cushions for the other 9 hours and 50 minutes of the driving day!

have you ever heard of anti monkey butt powder hellion? It's really good for the "friction" problem . I spend anywhere from 10 to 12 hours a day on my keister when we are paving and it has worked wonders .

Ellen - just checked out that seat. Is gonna be expensive, and I don't think my safety guy loves me THAT much!  But if I was a broker...I'd probably spec one into my truck. GP - I've tried the Monkey Butt powder. Felt nice 'n' cool, but I think the problem is more one of my weight centered on my bum-bones. Dan tells me my bum is "nicely proportioned", but I think I need to move some of the "padding" from the sides to the rear! I rode a friend's bike who'd put one of those fancy gel saddles on, and the difference from the regular saddle was incredible! So, I'm thinking a gel (or something like it) seat cushion may be the way to go. Truck just got hauled into the shop at the end of today (WTF??)...so I'm probably delaying the next run by another few hours of recovery time! 10448-D

boy do i know about the proportions of the bottom end . I have the side padding but not the bottom padding either .

Well, another long week with lotsa miles. Dispatch must love me! And my bum isn't AS sore, but still is sore.
Ladies, still looking for feedback. Any of you have any seat cushions.. whatever... how'd they work for you?

well?? I do not know if this idea will help.....do you remember years ago when 'we' gave birth to a child....and the nurses gave us those 'pillows' to sit on....actually a donut style pillow.... I am wondering if that would give some relief to the pressure points....and I think you can still get those kind of pillows at the pharmacy drugstore..... dmla

I have the same A$$ problem. My butt just cramps up after the first 4 hours or so of driving. I find that I have to stop and take a 10 min stroll or when I can't do that I sit straight up, clench and release my a$$ muscles for 10 minutes.

.....this idea will work..but .... I practice Yoga...and one of the position is 'sitting tall' as if a string was attached to the top of your head and someone was pulling the string upwards.. which lengthens your spine, aligns your hips and 'pulls' the bum muscles tight and lifts up the lower back.... all good in theory...but these yoga guys and gals probably have never driven a truck before.... http://www.yogajournal.com/I go to the 'Yoga Journal ' online and they have great advice on many life problems. dmla People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. Me too - I do yoga in the truck. I can do it whilst watching TV. Its especially handy on a cold, cold night when you don't want to go outside for exercise. My truck has one of those "super single" bunks (was a total pain to find sheets for, but luckily those new deep-pocket mattress sheets fit) so I can really move around quite a lot. It was a lot harder to do some of the stretches and exercises in my old flat-top FLD with a narrow bunk.
Gonna pick up a "ring" this week, hopefully. Will let y'all know if it helps!

U can also try one of those neck pillows to relieve the pressure on what ever area is sore. I broke my tailbone in high school and have problems with it still! So sometimes I have to use pillows to relieve the pressure. Problem is that I am a hefty girl, so the donuts just flatten out! So I have used the buckwheat and memory foam u shaped neck pillows and they help relieve the pressure. Member Id#: 10736-D

I'd love to have that seat! But alas, I am a company driver so I get what they give me.
For now, I got a gel seat cushion from the TA that costs about $30
I also do Yoga and Pilates moves in the Truck and walk daily to get the blood moving in my hips and legs again.
In the TA Road King and Pilot Challenge Free Mags. they often share a few moves you can do inside your bunk that are based on Pilates and Yoga poses that will help.
I also lay on my back with my feet up straight up for at least 15 minutes after I drive and I lay with my head hanging over the edge for about 5 to make the blood rush to those areas it has been constricted from by the long periods of sitting.
Gotta do the free stuff until my company buys me that chair at Christmas, right?

Well, I think my bum is toughening up (so sad, isn't it?) as it's not as sore this weekend and I did almost as many miles. Still haven't got any more padding for it! I'm looking out for one of those gel cushions... I know the ones and the local auto store has 'em on sale for about half price every so often.
In the meantime, I will have to spend the bucks on an ObusForm for my car. I used to drive a Volvo 960, which after 500,000kms and 15 years, had the effrontery to die on me. I'm still mourning the loss. A super-comfortable luxury car. My old chariot has been replaced with a little go-kart, aka VW Golf. And the seat is AWFUL! No lumbar support whatsoever. I've checked with others who drive these things, and they all say the same thing. Unless you're one of those who has their seat so far reclined as to be driving lying down, the seat is a chiropractor's wet dream.
The Golf is cheap to run, fun to drive, a dream to park. But is uncomfortable. I'd buy another VW but I would upgrade the seat even before choosing the AC option.
