Hello, So glad I found this site. I've been accepted into TDTS..and going to start in Sept. From what I've read and heard, its something that I'd like to do. However, I'm currently an LPN working in a Nursing Home...Been a nurse for 35 yrs and am now soo sick of it. I'm kind of a loner and travel on the road a LOT..alone, coast to coast when I was a traveling Nurse. Guess I'm kinda scared to make the carreer change and wanted some input as to the safety of the job. Thanks for reading this..and any input will be appreciated.

Hey members, anyone who can help Avalon?

Avalon, I hope that you will find value in becoming a member of Women In Trucking. Your dues as a student are $10 and then you can post with your member number.

Good luck in training!

Hi Avalon:

Love your handle, it actually was my email many years ago.... Have you ever been to Avalon? on Catalina?

Anywho.... I am fairly new to trucking and I've met a number of former Nurses believe it or not who have entered this Industry.

I understand entering the Nursing profession has it challenges.

Hope to see you around

Yes I am OTR. I am just 1.5 years into Trucking & I am a Single Woman that had no previous affiliation to the Trucking Industry.
That is significant because many Women like me are coming to this industry.
Having a resource will be invaluable for you to be successful.
Lots of people will offer advice but buyer beware if the are not OTR and alone out here, its a different ball of wax.
I love this job, but I knew I would.
It depends on the lifestyle you have.
I have always spent a good deal of time alone.
I walk for excercise & I work.
I am an adaptable traveler which some people do not factor into play.
If you lose your temper is uncomfortable situations it will be a challenge.
Driving is top of the list.
I was always a safe concientious defense driver.
Moreso in Trucking.
Do your homework & then some.
There is much to learn about this industry.

Welcome Avalon!

It is a good name, being that its the mythical place where King Arthur is resting. No one knows where it really is, except Arthur and Merlin. So, you are the keeper of a mythical resting place for a hero who will return to his people in a time of great need. That's some big shoes to fill! And very fitting for a nurse, who always comes to the aid of people in great need.

Oh - is also the title of one of the best albums ever recorded... by Roxy Music.

There's also the Avalon Peninsular in Newfoundland, Canada. I think it's the eastern-most part of North America.

As for driving... keep your eyes and ears open and your wits about you. There's much to learn, and much to teach. Good luck on your travels and stay in touch, sister.

Hi Avalon,
I hope that you love your new career. A passion for the work you do is a must in any industry.
Ask lots of questions....and sometimes....ask the same question many times from many different people.....(everyone has a different way to interpert the world as they see it...and from that perspective you will gain knowledge to be used throughout your trucking career).

...and have fun too....
