I thought I had read some where that there was a weight loss challenge going on for truck drivers? Does anyone know about this? I am interested in this because I would like to lose 50 pounds.

LostPiggie, Losing weight is a challenge. I was also accepted into the challenge and have enjoyed working with Bob and trying his ideas. Even though I am eating much better then I was I am still at a plateau and cannot seem to get past it. The weather has also not cooperated on trying to get out and walk. I was able to get out this morning and get in a decent walk but the elevation sure made it hard to breath and my throat hurt. I am hoping as we move closer to spring I will be able to get out and get in more exercise!
Congratulations on getting into the Challenge and I think all of us will be winners from what we are learning.

Both of you are doing a great job. I find myself stocking the truck with healthier snacks. I don't get to Cartersville or West Memphis, very often. I was in Atlanta the other day, but I could not drive past where I was to pick up a load and drive an hour more, then an hour back. Boss man would not like that. I have given up diet soda this week and man is that hard. I do drink a lot of iced tea, which probably is not much better. I have gotten to walk for the last few days which is nice, I'm up to about 30 min. I am also doing two reps with the weights (3lb) and felt the burn last night. I do 15 push ups and 20 crunches.I also do jumping jacks at rest areas before I get back into the truck. I do find that I don't like eating a lot of tuna, so pb and j at lunch is good. Usually have a salad of some kind until I get sick of eating salad. Then it is steak and veggies.

Hey ladies! Way to go! It's tough.
I dumped the soda and the iced tea (it may even be worse than soda sometimes!) and carry only pure juice (not juice drinks) tetrapaks and bottled water. I do have a couple of cans of soda for "treats".
I stashed all my snacks except for apples (or other eat-from-the-hand seasonal fruit) out of reach so I have to pull over to satisfy a craving.
And I'm pulling in my belt one notch tighter than I was in the fall. I haven't gotten on a set of scales, but firmly believe in the power of inches (remember muscle weighs way more than flab) and I like that extra notch back on my favourite belt. And that my dress pants aren't as snug in all the wrong places as they were.
Keep going girls! All the best.
It ain't what you do, it's the way that you do it.

I am new to this site and have'nt looked at it completely so this may be in here somewhere. But anyway how many of u heard of the CSA2010? It's just another law that FMCSA is implementing this spring. You can find all the details I guess on their website.I try to avoind it myself. But anyways that law is mainly targeting overweight and tired truckers.I guess if u don't meet their standards of how much u should weigh, you can not drive trk anylonger and u also are forced to take some stupid sleep abnea test..FMCSA will be sending all the into to all the carriers this spring. Also if u get a DOT inspection and they find anything wrong,u the driver are responsible and will get fined,NOT YOUR COMPANY.I've been driving almost 8 yrs and compared to many I am considered a newbie. But i've been out here long enough to know what silly and childish games the law as well as the companies play on the drivers.I don't have anything to worry about as far as losing weight but all u not so thin drivers be prepared for whats coming this Spring.

CSA2010 is not targeting weight or sleep apnea yet or in for foreseeable future as they keep pushing the date back. The first implementation will target DOT inspections and if you accept or are driving a piece of equipment that is deficient you will get the ticket as well as the company. This ticket stays on the drivers record for 3 years and the carriers for 5 years. As long as you run your business as a business should be run CSA2010 will have no affect on you. Knowledge is power and the more you can learn about CSA2010 the more power you have over your future as a CDL holder. This site has a lot of information for drivers not carriers. http://www.csa2010.com/

I have been bad. I have not weighted myself in two weeks. Guess I'll do that in the AM.I have not been able to get to a Roadside Med Clinic, been all around the area but not to that interstate in Cartersville. That stinks! I'm at home now. Getting ready to go to the truck show in Louisville, KY. I can't wait.

LostPiggie! Don't just weigh yourself... MEASURE yourself! If you've done extra exercise, muscle mass weighs more!
I have a friend who's a dispatcher (don't all laugh! She's one of the good ones) who's waaaaaay overweight. Poor girl's tried everything, but finally seems to be getting ahead. Anyway, I was at her place one evening and she's bemoaning the fact she hasn't lost any weight, but she's been doing more exercise, and watching what's she's eating. So I said "Debs, how're your pants fitting?" She says "Looser". So we got out the tape measure. She was down 6" overall from the previous month! Now we say "Screw the Scales - where's the Ruler?" The scales are important, but they're not everything.
PS - caught sight of myself in a shiny window in a TA in IL. Damn! But I'm looking good for a woman of 42! Musta lost some weight myself!
It ain't what you do, it's the way that you do it.
