Advice to New Truck Drivers » Anyone travel with their dog? Sep 9, 2007 07:39 AM (Total replies: 6)

Curious please be advised that it is a good idea to have some kind of gate that seperates the driving compart from the dog. The dot is getting stricter about this since the has been fatal accidents involving dogs getting under drivers feet. Although my dog really enjoys sitting on my lap she is only about 3 lbs ( tiny toy poodle ) she will get at my feet and look at me saying please pick me up, so remember little dogs can be very hazardious.

I walk every chance i get, u know them long layovers waiting to load or unload is a good time u are in a sercured area such as a shippers and recievers and they dont mind. I also eat agood breakfast lotta fruit that is something u can carry in the truck, a couple days supply or the pilots carry apples and bannas. I like grapefruit and it last well. you can do situps laying in ur bunk or just lay out on the grass. I dont care what other people think when they see me running the mile or bending and stretching around a truckstop. If they pass a new law that the DOT is trying to inact that a truck driver cant have a BMI (body mass index) of over 36 there will be a whole lotta truckers that wont be able to get DOt cards. So do what ever it takes to keep yourself healthy not just for your health but for your job.

Advice to New Truck Drivers » Meet and Greet Aug 23, 2007 07:17 AM (Total replies: 25)

Hey all, my name is Deanna Sink i am 44 yrs old and have been around the trucking industry about all my life. I have only been driving for 10 yrs now and i can't even imagine doing anything else and have even wondered what took me so long. The old adage diesel in the blood couldnt ring more true. I have a uncle among many (my grandmother had 15 children) who just retired from driving 50 yrs he is 70. I feel very blessed to be a truck driver we are a very noble breed. I know most dont see it that way but really we are a big part of the heart of america. If you cant tell i am very proud of what i do. I have 3 Childern and 2 grandchildern. Oh and i cant forget the man that helped me get them my husband of 24 yrs. Whom i have roped into the trucking industry about 5 yrs ago he loved me but did'nt love my trucking ways (so if ya can't beat em join em) i dont think he regrets it yet. We drive for a expedited company also. I am a very upbeat person and love people also very opionated go fugure. Look forward to many more post and chewing the cud. Be safe and keep it in the wind.
