I've been doing some homework, before I invest anything and get my hopes up. I am seeing in the united states, there are physical and mental limitations of being able to hold a CDL class A drivers license. for example; an insulin dependent diabetic may not have a class A CDL, due to risk of insulin shock or seizure while driving, could cause accident and/or death. makes perfect sense to me. there are some heart, blood pressure, and of course epileptic listed also, is why a person must obtain a DOT (dept of trans) physical before taking the driving test. makes sense to me. as I keep reading the rules and regulations, I see it says 'mental illness' also. but it does not tell me what type, or what issues might prevent me from driving. obviously if a person is openly homicidal and suicidal, they should not be behind the wheel of a truck, but what are the limitations? can a person have psychosis and still be allowed to drive? (I have hallucinations, delusions, paranoia...from personal research, very similar to schizophrenia) I haven't been on meds for years. will the meds effect a UA (pee test) should I start professional help and take meds again? I do not have a diagnosis, tho I have been to professionals in the past. so is a chance I might be able to keep my illness covered up as I have done in the past....but part of my reason for career change is to open some doors to get me access to help for my illness, not to continue living trying covering it up like a dirty little secret. I say "might be able to keep covered up", because part of my training will involve being in a truck with another person 24/7 for 3-4 weeks, for 2-3 months while I'm in training before driving solo. hard to keep such a secret in such tight quarters for that long of a time wink.gif any advice, or if you know the laws would be helpful. if you, or someone you know, have psychosis or schizophrenia and are a truck driver, just tell me all will be ok and I'll relax a lot. I haven't called the DMV direct, or the school, or a truck company...cause I am afraid of tipping my hand should psychotic disorders be one that is not allowed to hold a CDL. if I dont find out, I'm going try anyway. I feel this is something I have to see if I can do since I have thought of it so much over so many years. thanks
