There is heightened awareness of an ongoing, serious pattern of harassment and assault-related crimes against female truck drivers. While there is little formal research on the subject, WIT is currently conducting a significant research initiative that will help to define the problem of driver safety and harassment and to better understand the nature and extent of related challenges. WIT also is collaborating with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to study and survey the prevalence, seriousness and nature of the problem of harassment and assaults against female truck drivers.

Attend this session to:

  • Explore driver perspectives on how safe women are in the industry
  • Discuss what female drivers can do to minimize the chance of sexual harassment in the workplace or violence on the road
  • Learn what companies are doing to minimize instances of harassment or violence against women drivers
  • Generate frank discussion around the importance of same-gender training policies with for-hire and private fleets
