Trucking Industry Rallies to Promote Cancer Awareness

Written by Women In Trucking Staff | Feb 16, 2026 5:39:07 PM

Tyson Foods recently partnered with WIT to create truck and trailer wraps to help generate powerful breast cancer awareness.

Each year, the commercial trucking industry uses Cancer Awareness Month — particularly Cancer Awareness month in February and Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October — to spotlight women’s health issues and help spread messages of early detection, support, and community education. Organizations within the Women In Trucking (WIT) community have taken creative and impactful steps to raise awareness, promote screenings, and demonstrate solidarity with those affected by cancer.

WIT also is a “Friend Sponsor” to help promote the St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund, a nationwide charity that helps over-the-road semi-truck drivers and their families when an illness or injury. The SCF also provides free health and wellness programs that benefit professional drivers and the trucking industry.

In particular, the HIghway To Hope program begins its seventh year of podcasting with an episode dedicated to a critically important women’s health concern. Podcast host Lindsey Bryan, who is also SCF’s Health and Wellness Manager, welcomes SCF’s Director of Philanthropy Diane Hutsell to discuss the launch of SCF’s new at-home cervical cancer screening initiative tailored for women in the trucking industry. You will hear Lindsay and Diane detail how this program came together while they highlight the importance of early detection, simplifying the screening process and how these efforts align this program with the other initiatives that SCF.

WIT Member Companies Champion Cancer Awareness Initiatives

Several member companies involved in WIT actively support cancer awareness and support initiatives, including the following:

Bridgestone’s global community and health activities include numerous events and partnerships that improve local health and wellness — activities that often overlap with cancer prevention goals. Through employee engagement programs and corporate donations, Bridgestone supports organizations involved in cancer prevention, treatment access, and community outreach.

Daimler Truck North America runs a corporate giving and community impact program called Daimler Truck Cares that supports health-related causes as part of its broader community giving focus. While not exclusively centered only on cancer awareness, health and traffic safety is a core area of support, and the company provides funding and volunteer support for nonprofit organizations working on health issues important to employees and communities.

Mack Trucks sports a specially wrapped all-new “PinkLady” Mack Anthem® (left). The striking pink vehicles demonstrate Mack’s ongoing commitment to raising awareness for breast cancer research and supporting those impacted by the disease.

FedEx’s global FedEx Cares program promotes charitable giving, employee volunteer efforts, and in-kind support for nonprofits that help address health, wellness, and community needs — including cancer-related causes. The initiative encourages team members to volunteer and work with organizations where they live and work, providing supplies and support for underserved groups.

Great Dane’s corporate focus is, in part, on employee health and wellness, offering assistance programs and resources that can indirectly support early detection and overall wellbeing. This can benefit employees and families dealing with serious health issues, including cancer.

J.B. Hunt has made significant long-term investments in cancer prevention research by creating the J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. Cancer Prevention and Control Endowment with a major gift to The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. This supports efforts to use data and evidence-based strategies to reduce cancer incidence and mortality, especially in medically underserved communities. In addition, the company’s name is on the J.B. Hunt Transport Services Cancer Support Home in Fayetteville, AR — a facility providing free lodging, wig/prosthesis services, support groups, breast health navigation, early detection cancer screenings, and other resources to patients and caregivers. This home is funded by donations and grants and illustrates the company’s community commitment to cancer support and well-being.

Michelin has partnered with nonprofit organizations that focus on cancer care and support, such as the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer, through initiatives like the “Drive Together: Because Families Matter” campaign, which aims to support families facing pediatric cancer. That campaign emphasizes holistic care for children with cancer and their families, beyond just medical treatment.

International has a long history along with the broader Navistar community for truck-related awareness efforts around cancer causes. For example, at industry events International has displayed pink-painted refuse trucks to raise awareness for breast cancer research, pledging rental fees to cancer charities.

PACCAR and the PACCAR Foundation support health-related causes and cancer research through community grants and partnerships. For example, PACCAR has made significant donations to Cancer Research U.K. to help build a world-class cancer research facility serving the area around its manufacturing site in Lancashire, England. This work contributes to long-term research and care rather than a single month campaign.

In the United States, PACCAR also donated Kenworth trucks to support a mobile mammography clinic in Washington State, providing women in underserved areas with access to breast cancer screening services. These efforts align with cancer prevention and early detection, which are the core goals of National Cancer Prevention Awareness Month observed in February.

Penske associates participate annually in “Penske Pink Out,” an associate-led breast cancer awareness event that started in 2015 to promote education, support those impacted by breast cancer, and encourage early detection. During this event, employees wear pink clothing and accessories, share awareness resources, hold fundraisers, and support community activities. Teams also participate in American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks to raise funds for research, patient support, and screening access.

Ryder runs an annual workplace giving campaign with United Way that engages employees in fundraising for community health and wellbeing, education, and social services. The 2025 campaign set a donation record of $1.17 million, helping United Way chapters across the U.S. support programs that include access to healthcare resources — an effort that can bolster community health broadly, including indirect cancer support services. The company’s charitable giving through the Ryder System Charitable Foundation includes grants in the health category, which benefits nonprofits working on public health and medical care in local communities, potentially helping with facets of cancer awareness or patient aid.

UPS plays a role in cancer prevention and care by helping deliver cancer-related health products and services. For example, UPS handles logistics for shipping colorectal cancer screening kits (such as Cologuard) directly to patient homes and back to labs, helping reduce barriers to early detection — a key focus of cancer awareness and prevention efforts.

Walmart Inc. typically aligns several activities with Cancer Awareness Month in February (officially recognized in the U.S. as National Cancer Prevention Month and including World Cancer Day on February 4). Initiatives include a long-term partnership with the American Cancer Society, community health outreach and screenings, expanding access to cancer care for associates, and raising awareness of cancer prevention tools.
