Those who are physically active experienced improved mental and physical health, higher productivity, and fewer sick days. Those who work in trucking can be at risk. The Women In Trucking Association (WIT) is collaborating with the Physical Activity Alliance by signing onto the Pledge for Physical Activity, which is a nationwide campaign that aims to inspire leaders to adopt movement-friendly strategies that enhance employee health and productivity.
The project was made possible by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
WIT’s President and CEO Jennifer Hedrick, CAE, formally signed onto the pledge on behalf of WIT with the commitment to fulfill two components:
Hedrick also encourages other leaders of WIT organizations to sign the Pledge. Who can sign? Any organization leader, such as CEO’s, Executive Directors, Presidents, Managing Directors and others.
The Physical Activity Alliance Association serves as a call for transformation in 2026 for the driver health initiative. Here is the link to sign up page.
The Industry Ambassador Program is designed to expand the reach and impact of the CEO Pledge by engaging respected leaders who can champion physical activity within their own sectors, according to Perry. “As the first Industry Ambassador, I will help pave the way for a broader network of ambassadors across the economy,” he says.
Perry, a long-time WIT member who also is known as The Trucker Trainer®, is widely recognized in the trucking community as a long-time advocate for driver health and the host of the FIT DRIVERS® podcast, sponsored by Tenstreet. Throughout his career, he has dedicated himself to enhancing the well-being of professional drivers. His deep relationships with carriers, industry associations, and driver leaders make him an ideal partner to help bring the CEO Pledge message to the transportation and trucking sector.
In his role as Industry Ambassador, Perry will:
The Physical Activity Alliance will support Perry with tailored talking points, digital assets, and stories drawn from employers across the country, and will recognize his leadership through our website, social media, and events. Progress within the transportation sector will be tracked as part of our broader effort to position physical activity as a unifying issue that benefits every industry.
Perry’s appointment launches the pilot phase of the Industry Ambassador Program in Transportation & Trucking, with additional ambassadors to be identified in sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, education, finance, technology, and government.
“We are honored to have Bob Perry as our first Industry Ambassador,” says Michael Stack, President of the Physical Activity Alliance. “His passion for driver health and his credibility in the trucking community will help us reach employers and leaders who can make physical activity a visible, everyday part of work life.”
“I am excited to have been appointed as the inaugural Ambassador for the Physical Activity Alliance,” says Perry. “Encouraging CEOs to develop and promote health and fitness initiatives within the transportation sector aligns perfectly with my mission in Busing and Trucking over the past several decades. As we initiate the pilot phase of the Industry Ambassador Program in Transportation and Trucking, I take pride in inspiring the identification of more ambassadors across various sectors.”
The Physical Activity Alliance will announce future Industry Ambassadors in the months ahead and invites suggestions and nominations from partners and stakeholders.
The CEO Pledge for Physical Activity calls on leaders to prioritize movement in the workplace, model active living, and support the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Active People, Healthy Nation goal of helping 27 million more Americans become more active by 2027.
