Latest Trends in Driver Recruiting and Retention" 

Lana R. Batts of Driver iQ will share current trends in recruiting and retention in the trucking industry. See results of their ongoing quarterly recruiting and retention surveys, which provide a snapshot of current and expected conditions in the truckload sector. Specific topics include:

  • Causes of the driver shortage

  • The role of compensation has in recruitment and retention
  • Retention efforts
  • The latest statistics regarding women drivers, women recruiting staff, and women recruiting managers

  • Benchmarking metrics of recruiting and retention successes and struggles across the trucking industry, rather than in just within their own company
  • An interactive discussion on recruiting/retention strategies will stimulate fresh ideas to measure the success of drivers recruitment and retention to their respective companies
  • A workshop environment where participants will be able to better manage by measuring the outcomes.

About the presenter: Lana R. Batts has almost four decades of experience in the trucking industry. She is widely quoted in the trade press and is a sought after public speaker, know for her sharp insights and quick wit on the state of the trucking industry. Currently, she is the co-President of Driver iQ, a full-service background screening company the specializes in the trucking industry (2010 to present).

She is also partner emeritus of Transport Capital Partners, LLC, a mergers and acquisition firm that specializes in the trucking industry (2001 to present). From 1994 to 2000, she was the President of the Truckload Carriers Association (www.truckload.org). While at the Truckload Carriers Association, she led the successful turn around of the Professional Truck Driver Institute (www.ptdi.org) and established the Truckload Academy (www.truckloadacademy.org).

Prior to joining TCA, she was the President and CEO of the American Financial Services Association (1992-1994) (www.afsaonline.org). For 20 years, she was with the American Trucking Associations, culminating in the position of Senior Vice President for the Government Affairs (www.trucking.org).
Batts is currently on the Board of Directors of Brown Trucking Co. (www.browntrucking.com). She has served on the Boards of Mullen Transportation (www.mullentransportation.com) a publicly traded Canadian corporation (TSE: MTL.UN), PeopleNet Communications (www.peoplenetonline.com), and the Transportation Costing Group (www.tcgcis.com).

She currently on the Board of Directors of the West Shore Community Library and serves on the development committee. She is also on the Board of Directors of the Glacier National Park Conservancy and was on the board of the Montana Audubon. She grew up in a trucking family in Billings, Montana, where her father owned a livestock trucking company. She graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in Political Science and History and holds an MA (with honors) from the University of Miami (FL) in Politics and Public Affairs. She has done doctoral work at the University of Maryland in transportation.
