Conducted biennially, the WIT Index is the industry barometer to benchmark and measure the percentage of women who make up critical roles in transportation.
The results are in for the 2026-27 WIT Index, the industry barometer for benchmarking and measuring the percentage of women who make up critical roles in transportation. Whether you’re looking to gain a clearer picture of the evolving trucking workforce or benchmark your organization, this year’s report offers practical insights and meaningful context for anyone invested in the progress of the industry.
The WIT Index is the industry barometer to regularly benchmark and measure the percentage of women who make up critical roles in transportation:
Conducted biennially, the WIT Index is a fundamental report that will help to amplify the brand, reputation, and value of the association to the industry and to the North American economy. For-hire trucking companies, private fleets, asset-based third-party logistics companies (3PLs), drayage companies, and other associations report their percentage of professional drivers who are women. These companies along with other market segments in transportation (such as technology innovators, equipment manufacturers, railroads and ocean carriers also report their percentage of leadership and functional roles that are female.
Please note: Participating in the 2026-27 WIT Index is a requirement for this year's Top Companies for Women to Work in Trucking nomination process.
To complete the survey, you must be an authorized respondent on behalf of your organization. Be prepared to provide as many of the following data points as you can.

Important Note: To nominate your company as a Top Company for Women to Work in Transportation or Top Woman-Owned Business in Transportation, you must participate in the WIT Index.
From November 2026 through April 2026, WIT conducted a survey to gather percentages of the trucking workforce that are women. Those completing the survey were required to be an authorized respondent on behalf of their organization. The majority of participating companies were motor carriers or 3PLs/brokers/intermediaries, but other types of company participated, including technology providers, professional services companies, and manufacturers, retailers, and distributors with private fleets.
