Did you know that women now make up over 10% of over-the-road (OTR) truck drivers?
This is according to the 2019 WIT Index. The WIT Index also shows that the number of women executives of motor carriers climbed to just shy of 24 percent year-over-year. And women make up 43.5 percent of the overall non-executive workforce in trucking companies (non-executive employees include recruiters, driver managers, dispatchers, salespeople and administrative workers).

The WIT Index is the official industry barometer to benchmark and measure each year the percentage of women who make up the following roles in transportation:

  • Corporate management (C-suite)
  • Boards of Directors
  • Functional roles (Operations, Technicians, HR/Talent Management, Marketing, etc.)
  • Professional drivers. The WIT Index is a fundamental report that will help to amplify the brand, reputation, and value of the association to the industry and to the North American economy

For-hire trucking companies, private fleets, asset-based third-party logistics companies (3PLs), drayage companies, and other associations report their percentage of professional drivers who are women. These companies along with other market segments in transportation (such as technology innovators, equipment manufacturers, railroads and ocean carriers also report their percentage of leadership and functional roles that are female.
