The official industry barometer to benchmark and measure each year the percentage of women who make up critical roles in transportation.

This is according to the 2023 WIT Index, which also reports the percentages of women in the C-Suite, serving on boards of directors, and in functional roles. The 2023 WIT Index is now available to download below.

The WIT Index is the official industry barometer to benchmark and measure each year the percentage of women who make up the following roles in transportation:

  • Corporate management (C-suite)
  • Boards of Directors
  • Functional roles (Operations, Technicians, HR/Talent Management, Marketing, etc.)
  • Professional drivers

The WIT Index is a fundamental report that will help to amplify the brand, reputation, and value of the association to the industry and to the North American economy. For-hire trucking companies, private fleets, asset-based third-party logistics companies (3PLs), drayage companies, and other associations report their percentage of professional drivers who are women. These companies along with other market segments in transportation (such as technology innovators, equipment manufacturers, railroads and ocean carriers also report their percentage of leadership and functional roles that are female.

Data provided will be held in the strictest of confidence and data will only be reported as an aggregate and NOT on an individual basis. If your company requires, WIT is willing to provide a signed Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) to guarantee this promise.

Important Note: To nominate your company as a Top Company for Women to Work For in Transportation or Top Woman-Owned Business in Transportation, you must participate in the WIT Index.

To complete the survey, you must be an authorized respondent on behalf of your organization. Be prepared to provide as many of the following data points as you can.

From January through April 2023, WIT conducted a survey to gather percentages of the workforce that are women. Those completing the survey were required to be an authorized respondent on behalf of their organization. The majority of participating companies were motor carriers or 3PLs/brokers/intermediaries, but other types of company participated, including technology providers, professional services companies, and manufacturers, retailers, and distributors with private fleets.
