Volunteer Spotlight: Building Connections That Move the Industry Forward

Kris-Cornellier-2-300x300When Kris Cornellier stepped into a business development role at Anderson Trucking, she quickly noticed something missing. There were not many women in her immediate circle, and she wanted a space to connect, learn, and grow within the industry. That search led her to Women In Trucking Association (WIT), an organization that would soon become a meaningful part of both her professional and personal journey.

About a year into her sales role, Cornellier joined WIT with a clear goal in mind. She wanted to better understand the trucking industry while building relationships with others navigating similar paths. What she found was a community that encouraged participation, leadership, and growth. As Cornellier put it, “the more I learned about WIT, the more I wanted to be involved.”

Today, Cornellier plays an active role in shaping that same experience for others. She leads a Midwest Networking Group for WIT, creating a consistent space where women in the industry can connect, share insights, and learn from one another. Each month, the group gathers around a new discussion topic, offering both structure and relevance to the conversations. The result is a dynamic environment that fosters both professional development and genuine connection.

In addition to her networking efforts, Cornellier is also involved in sponsoring a Girl Scout Patch Program through her work, in partnership with WIT and the WITney® Educational Trailer. This initiative helps introduce young girls to opportunities within the trucking industry, planting seeds of awareness and confidence early on.

“I believe you get back what you put into the universe. The more we lift each other up, the better we all do,” says Cornellier.

That mindset is evident in the way she shows up for her peers and her community. Whether she is facilitating conversations, mentoring connections, or supporting outreach efforts, Cornellier prioritizes collaboration over competition.

In her professional role, Cornellier works in sales for an asset-based carrier, focusing on securing freight that can be transported via open deck equipment such as flatbeds, step decks, and RGNs. Her day-to-day responsibilities involve identifying customer needs, building relationships, and aligning freight opportunities with available capacity. It is a fast-paced, relationship-driven role that requires both industry knowledge and strong communication skills, both of which she continues to sharpen through her involvement with WIT.

The impact of her volunteer work is tangible as the Midwest Networking Group has become a valuable resource for attendees, offering not only industry insights but also a sense of belonging. Cornellier reflects on the experience with enthusiasm, noting that it has been “a blast” to build and grow the group while meeting so many inspiring women along the way.

One of the most memorable moments in her journey came during the Accelerate! Conference & Expo. Attending on her own, Cornellier left with a strong network of new connections and a renewed sense of energy. The experience reinforced the value of stepping outside of one’s comfort zone and embracing the opportunities that come with it.

Looking ahead, Cornellier hopes to continue deepening her involvement with WIT by staying engaged in activities and expanding her network even further. For her, volunteering is about growing alongside others and creating opportunities that benefit the broader community.

Her journey is a clear example of how individual initiative can create collective impact. Through leadership, connection, and a genuine commitment to lifting others up, Cornellier is helping move the industry forward, one relationship at a time.
