Women In Trucking (WIT) continues to inspire the next generation of trucking through its ongoing partnership with Girl Scouts of the USA, creating meaningful opportunities for young girls to explore careers in the dynamic world of trucking. By introducing young girls to the wide range of rewarding careers available across the industry, from professional truck driving to logistics management, operations and engineering, WIT is helping spark curiosity, build confidence, and open doors to futures many girls may never have imagined.

On May 16, WIT coordinated an event hosted Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan (GSHOM) at the Whitmore Lake Girl Scout building, according to Jenny Fall, WIT’s Director of Driver Engagement. Fall coordinated this “Trucks Are For Girls” event with Renee Osear, Director of Human Resources & Safety Moon Star Express.

According to Fall, approximately 50 young girls and their parents attended and took part in several earning stations:

  • Pre-trip experience (and took a quiz as part of the station)
  • Craft station
  • Yoga with Maggie Wolarik, Executive Director with Operation Broga
  • A full WITney® Educational Trailer experience

“I got to talk with girls who didn't know anything about the careers in trucking to girls who were confident they wanted to drive some day,” says Fall. “These girls were 10 to 12 years old, and their excitement, engagement and overall attitudes made this day so special.”

“One mom shared that her daughter just wasn't into school - so she wanted to help her find something that didn't need a 4 year degree,” continues Fall. “I got to talk with her about all the things in trucking that I've gotten to see - from driving truck to operations and customer service roles. I say it all the time: the future of trucking is bright!”

During a closing ceremony, each participant received a WIT Girl Scout patch and a doll with an I Heart Trucking® shirt and their name, according to Fall: “What a fun day celebrating Trucks are For Girls with Renee Osaer and Maggie Wolarik!”

Through these hands-on experiences, mentorship, and education, these initiatives are not only exposing girls to incredible career possibilities, but also planting the seeds for lifelong dreams in an industry eager for diverse talent and fresh perspectives.
